POWER AND TERROR, le dernier état de pensée de Noam Chomsky, à travers une longue interview et une série de conférences à New York et en Californie au printemps 2002. Comme il le fait depuis le 11 septembre, il replace l’ attaque terroriste dans le contexte des interventions américaines depuis 45 - Vietnam, Amérique centrale, Moyen Orient, et ailleurs. Le terrorisme, c’est l’exercice de la violence contre les populations civiles, qu’elle vienne des organisations extrémistes islamiques ou de l’état le plus puissant du monde. En s’appuyant sur ce principe fondamental, Noam Chomsky défie ouvertement les Etats-Unis d’appliquer à leurs propres actions les critères moraux qu’ils exigent et veulent imposer aux autres nations.

Noam Chomsky

est un linguiste, un professeur et un analyste politique mondialement renommé. Né le 7 décembre 1928 à Philadelphie, Chomsky devient politiquement conscient très jeune, écrivant son premier article politique contre le fascisme en Espagne, à l¹age de 10 ans. En 1957, son travail sur les structures syntaxiques fut une révolution dans le domaine de la linguistique, changeant fondamentalement notre approche du langage. Chomsky rejoint le Massachusetts Institute of Technology en 1955, et en 1976 devient professeur du département de Linguistique et de Philosophie. Il a écrit et enseigné abondamment sur la linguistique, la philosophie, les affaires internationales, la politique étrangère U.S., et bien d¹autres sujets politiques contemporains. Ses essais furent publiés dans The New York Review of Books, The Nation, Z Magazine, CAQ, et de nombreuses publications politiques et universitaires. Le travail de Chomsky sur la Palestine, le Moyen-Orient, Timor orientale, la Guerre du Golfe et les mass media ont eu une audience internationale. Comme preuve de son rayonnement et de son importance internationales, en 1993, le film "Noam Chomsky , les médias ou les illusions nécessaires" lui a été consacré, recevant de nombreux prix à travers le monde, et des extraits de ses discours sont même apparus sur un disque du célèbre groupe punk américain Bad Religion. Chomsky a rédigé de nombreux livres. ³ 9-11² fut publié dans 26 pays, tout comme le livre lié à ce film, "Pouvoir et Terreur².
